Whaling

The free dictionary says :

Whaling : n. The business or practice of hunting, killing, and processing whales.

But some people have given a new meaning to this word by starting a “whaling” epidemic :

As big as they are, whales can be vulnerable, as you can see with this humpback whale caught in a fishnet :

Google’s doodles

While a doodle is a drawing you make aimlessly when you are thinking, listening or talking, Google’s Doodles are very elaborate. Here is an example :

This one is particularly hard to decipher… It was published last year, on Douglas Adams’ birthday. He is a famous science-fiction writer. Usually, they are much easier to read. Like this one :

A Badger Cull in West Somerset

So, a cull is an act of killing a proportion of animals in order to reduce their population.
